BAXTER-With ANN and BETH
THE HOOP PATH- North Carolina
WORKSHOP:For the first time ever, students will experience a team-taught HoopPath workshop! Baxter joins up with his long-time students, Beth and Ann, to bring a broad range of perspectives to the HoopPath teachings. In the first 50-minute section, Baxter will familiarize/refresh students aboutfundamental HP terms and concepts, grounding our approach as we ready our bodies and minds to take in loads of HP information. In the second 50-minute section, Beth will focus on the more technical aspects of
reverses, breaks, paddles and passes. Beth will guide hoopdancers through
these techniques, which can be performed on the waist, the shoulders and
at angles with varying degrees of difficulty, through imagery and stories
born from HoopPath mythology. And in the third and final 50-minute
section, Ann will both explore certain techniques (such as Two Tree and
Two Bird) more deeply, but also turn our focus inward, towards our richest
but often least-appreciated source of learning, our own imagination.
Though we will cover a huge amount of technical information, and you are
sure to be physically exhausted after this 2 1/2 hour workshop, as always
our primary objective will be to make more available to you the
transcendent experience of Flow.
**Programming note: We are conducting this as a single workshop
consisting of 3 parts. While there is no requirement that you attend all
3 sections, we strongly encourage those of you who are interested to
commit to the whole shebang, so that you might get the most out of this
unique experience. We won't have time in sections 2 and 3 to review the
HP terms defined in section 1, so if you do show up for 2 or 3 only, make
sure you have a working familiarity with basic HP terms and concepts.

Most poi moves can be translated to the hoop like forward and backwards weave, thread the needle and figure eights.
DEMONSTRATION: Yarn falls demo:
Stephiniti and Shakti of the Kaivalya Hoop Dancers demo fabulous yarn and feather falls. A great way to spruce up any performance with minimal effort. Also great for protecting your hair in a fire show

STEFAN
GROOVEHOOPS-New York City
WORKSHOP: Hoop Performance Techniques and Choreography Workshop.
Doing tricks is one thing, giging out is another but how does one craft a performance for a crowd? In this workshop we will identify what "wows" an audience. Define the arch of an act. Work on character development. Personify the the hoop & leave with a lot of new homework.
Choreography Workshop - What does it take to make a performance? How do I put a group of hooper on a stage and make it look good? How do you block out an act? What looks good to an audience? What is possible? GrooveHoops™ has spent years asking ourselves these questions while performing our multitude of dance numbers. Whither it was for a 70,000 person festival or a celebrity studded gathering GrooveHoops has risen to these questions and answered them many times over. Allow us to share what we have learned and put it into practice with you.
